HDAC1 plays an important role in regulating eukaryotic chromatin structure and specifically interacts with human Hus1 gene products in yeast, mammalian cells, and in vitro. S. Pombe's Hus1 protein is associated with G2/M checkpoint control and is a member of the cell cycle checkpoint Rad protein, which is involved in the mitotic checkpoint induced by DNA damage or DNA replication arrest.
