FGL, a NCAM (neural cell adhesion molecule) mimetic peptide, binds to the Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 1 (FGFR-1) and has been shown to improve normal memory functioning and mitigate certain pathological cognitive impairments. While FGL does not affect basal synaptic transmission, it facilitates both the induction and maintenance of long-term potentiation (LTP). Additionally, FGL influences heterosynaptic plasticity at adjacent lateral perforant path synapses.
