Teplow's Amyloid β-Protein (1-40) (scrambled II) is a specially designed negative control in the Abeta40 study. Teplow's Amyloid β-Protein (1-40) does not exhibit some of the phenomena regularly observed by Abeta40 (fiber formation, oligomerization, toxicity to neurons), and has a relatively flat hydropathy profile, which may have been an advantage in some studies, for example, to avoid nonspecific interactions with cell membranes. ''Scrambled'' means that it contains the same amino acids as Abeta40, but in a different order.
